L’OREAL PARIS SHOOT FOR MAKEUP GENIUS AT PARLAY STUDIOS

5276bd23350c725cdfffea5c0059f413Our friends from L’Oreal Paris recently held a shoot for their new make up app, Makeup Genius, here at Parlay Studios. This new, innovative augmented reality app has the fashion world buzzing! The app uses the front camera on smart phones and tablets to turn devices into virtual mirrors. Users can test out a selection of the latest L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics and makeup looks in real time simply by holding the device in front of their face.  Frankly, it’s incredible.

Situated in Parlay’s  Studios B & C with a combined square footage of 4,250, the L’Oreal team was able to deliver a successful shoot while the Parlay staff catered to their every need.

Because of this, L’Oreal Paris has remained a very close client of ours, and it was our pleasure to work with them on this exciting project. We’re super anxious to see the end result of their shoot for Makeup Genius. The app will soon be available sometime this month to download worldwide. STAY TUNED!

L’OREAL PARIS SHOOTS SUMMER STYLE AT PARLAY

The team from L’Oreal Paris recently shot their Summer Street Style line here at Parlay Studios. Lensed by photographer Tom Wool and assisted by Cy Karrat the shoot was produced by Brandon Arolfo and Jen Lewis. Because location played a big role in the shoot–the L’Oreal team wanted a “downtown” street feeling but had to contend with weather issues–the ideal solution was Parlay’s newest stage, Studio C. Situated in a veritable back-lot of cobble stone streets and Tribeca look-alike buildings, the team was able to shoot indoors while using the ground-floor drive in entry as access to the street. The results speak for themselves with perfectly coiffed models able to have their hair, makeup and wardrobe done indoors while Tom Wool was able to capture the urban feeling the client was looking for. Nice results guys!

“Balance” by Tobias Hutzler featured in TIME Magazine


Parlay Studios is pleased to present Balance. A film envisioned and shot by photographer Tobias Hutzler. Featured in TIME magazine the production was managed by New York’s B2Pro. Within two days, Balance racked up close to 50,000 views 2,000 likes. It also has been picked up by online media outlets ranging from Zeit, which is like the Time magazine of Germany, to U.S.-based Juxtapoz. And it was named a Staff Pick by the editors of Vimeo.

The inspiration for Balance was Maedir Eugster, an artist with the Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque, who performs the astonishing feat of balancing a series of palm-leaf ribs on a single feather for audiences at the avant-garde circus Spiegelworld’s “Empire” show. Tobias, who is interested in temporary sculptures, was introduced to Maedir, and the two decided to collaborate on a film based on the performance.

“I am very interested in the aspect of perpetual motion, an object of perfect symmetry, geometry and balance, like a mobile by Alexander Calder,” Tobias says.
Rather than try to re-create the colorful staging of the palm-leaf piece familiar to Maedir’s Spiegelworld audiences, though, Tobias took a much more spartan approach and chose a bare studio for the setting.

Shot at Parlay Studios in Jersey City, New Jersey, using a setup comprising multiple RED cameras, in order to capture “the tension and sweat in detail.” Balance was produced by James Jolly of Prime Pictures, executive produced by Brent Langton of B2Pro, and edited by Bunker Media.

Leonardo DiCaprio Visits Parlay Studios to Support the Automotive Green Revolution

TopGear.com interviewed Leo at Parlay Studios after he announced he was investing in Fisker Automotive.

You’re one of the world’s biggest movie stars and you’re hot off your latest film, the wildly successful Django Unchained. What do you do for fun? If you’re Leonardo DiCaprio, you don’t only hop into one of the coolest—and greenest—cars on the planet, you buy into the company. This ain’t no Prius, people. This is the Fisker Karma.

A bona fide green activist, Leo set off a celebrity trend of ‘green auto envy’ when he famously drove himself to the Oscars in a Prius. Not one to shy away from the press or his sense of civic duty, the star has made a conscious effort to put his beliefs where his wallet is by working actively with organizations like Global Green, and by investing in progressive technologies that strive to make a difference on the planet.

Parlay Studios was able to play a part in Leo’s environmental initiatives by standing in for a Hollywood scene shop. The star talked about his latest efforts, his driving history, and how he got involved with Fisker. Also on set: the new Fisker Karma—a green sports car that drives like a Porsche and uses gas like a Prius (read more about it here).

The shoot was pulled together at the last minute with the team from Fisker, who all flew in on a red-eye from LA. Even with a tight hour and a half-day shooting schedule, Leo was both on time and a gracious guest. He strolled into the Parlay café and gave the surprise of the day to our Barista Julia and some of our other clients by sitting down to make small talk over coffee. GET YOUR VACATION ON! ORBITZ TRAVEL AND THE “GIRLS” OF MTV LOGO.

What do Drag Queens and Caribbean Islands have in common? We don’t know either but somehow both wound up on Parlay Studios “A” stage for an Orbitz Travel shoot. The “girls” of MTV’s Logo channel camped it up for a green screen shoot that had the client and crew in stiches for the entire day. Studio A was the ideal location to bring the Caribbean way up north. With over 4000 square feet of production space, lounges, hair, makeup, dressing areas and the Parlay cafe, the 30+ person crew and cast had ample space to work and…express themselves. TIGERSAPIEN

Tigersapien approached Parlay Film Productions with one of their upbeat Electro songs and a challenge; they wanted the “craziest” video imaginable involving women and fire… Parlay delivered.

This video was conceptualized and directed by our own John Welsh III. Shot entirely on the RED One at Parlay Studios over a span of 3 days, it was extremely ambitious for the nominal budget. “I wanted to challenge myself,” John said, “I have never done a video entirely comprised of green screen and was so reliant on Post-Production effects. It was scary at first. I remember being on set with Chase the first day, looking around at just a nude model painted gold laying on a green screen and think to myself, ‘Man, I hope this works.’ But luckily, I had a great team at Get-Kinetic. I never would have attempted something like this if Dan wasn’t so talented.”

THE WADE BROTHERS GO PSYCHEDELIC FOR REEBOK UK

UK photographic team The Wade Brothers created some unique and eclectic work for the recent Reebok Campaign ‘Reethym of Lite’ shot at Parlay Studios. The Wades shot still and video with Reebok’s UK ambassadors Labyrinth and Bluey. Working with creatives from M&C Saatchi, the Wade’s vibrant compositions depict their subjects in a kind of “suspended animation.” Their aesthetic combines elements of surrealism, fantasy, and urban street-style. Bravo guys!

Photographed by the team at PARLAY STUDIOS, The A|X VideoMix App for iPhone and iPad is the final piece in a year-long 20th Anniversary celebration of Armani’s younger themed A|X brand.  Shot with RED ONE cameras on Parlay’s massive A Stage, the two day shoot featured six of the world’s top models walking a giant green-screen runway.  Post-production compositing was performed by Parlay’s post division, GET KENETIC.

The A|X VIDEOMIX App was released this month and allows users select a model of their choice, then select from 10 animated backgrounds, eight music tracks, and 30 different seasonal looks.

The app will be updated each season with users receiving exclusive content and participation in special promotions.  What’s next?  A sweepstakes where the winner will be flown to Miami for an Armani Fashion show.

JOHNNIE WALKER HOUSE OF WALKER EXPERIENCE

Guests enjoy an evening of fine whiskeys at Parlay Studios.

Johnnie Walker recently held their House of Walker Experience here at Parlay Studios. Sounds cool but you have no idea what that is? It’s a traveling tasting that hits major cities around the country including Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Washington D.C., New York, and of course Jersey City.

After you are greeted and checked in by the beautiful Johnnie Walker ladies, the Experience starts with cocktail hour. You can enjoy an Old Fashioned with Black Label or a ginger ale with Red Label while munching on delicious hors d’oeurves. Then you are seated for the main event, the tasting. Your host the Master of Whiskey, also known as Jimmy Ludwig, transports you to Scotland and just might convert you into a scotch lover.

The tasting starts with the brand’s most popular label Black. Johnnie Walker recently launched their Double Black Label now available at a liquor store near you. It was previously only available in duty free stores. Our guests in Jersey City had the pleasure of being one of the first to try out the brand’s new smokier label. Then Red Label, Gold Label, and the perfect end to any night Blue Label.
