The Joker Comes to Jersey City

There’s a new Joker and a new Gotham City on the rise.

Jersey City was home to one of DC’s most famous villains this weekend, as Joaquin Phoenix starred as the Joker in the new DC film.

The film officially started filming in September in NYC and Jersey shortly thereafter. In order to accommodate the large number of personnel involved, Parlay Studios was selected as a holding location for the shoots in Jersey City. The crew were gathered within our Glass Gallery, our largest studio boasting 50,000 sq.ft of column-free space.

The nearby Jersey City Loews theater also received a temporary make-over for the duration of the shoot, and transformed into the “Monarch Theatre”, where the parents of Bruce Wayne were mugged and later murdered.

The Batman prequel is set in the 1980s, and will be the origin story of a failed stand-up comedian who’s gone psychopathic criminal. The latest version of “The Joker” has a tentatively scheduled theatrical release date of October 4, 2019. Stay tuned for trailers and teasers as they release!
