The State of the Film Tax Credit in New Jersey

07.10.2019 Industry

With eager support Governor Phil Murphy reinstated the New Jersey Film Tax Credit Program in July 2018 – and it has since garnered wide support from film and television professionals across the state as well. The governor announced last month that the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Board approved four film and television productions for tax credits through the New Jersey Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program.

New Jersey currently provides a 30-35% tax credit incentive for prodcutions in state, with an additional +2% diversity bonus for crews that comprise of at least 15 percent women and minorities.

“New Jersey has a rich history as the setting for hundreds of films and television shows,” said Governor Murphy. “Our diverse population and geography have long kept us on the short lists of studios and location scouts. The addition of this tax credit as well as our continued defense of progressive values put New Jersey on the cusp of becoming one of the premier locations in the nation.”
